This powerful gemstone is a type of quartz that comes specifically from Najaf al-Ashraf, a city in South Iraq. It is found either in the rivers or on land; the stones coming from the rivers are brighter. They have colored inclusions inside making the gem high rated.

History

Also called as the Rutilled Quartz, the Moh e Najaf are of two kinds: (i) the rutilled with gold needle and (ii) the rutilled with black needle. The best stone is found in Iraq for almost all rutilled quartz have black needle. Muslim priests called the Imams claimed that just the sight of Najaf is enough to affect the heart of believers (male or female). According to Islamic lore; this is the first stone that acknowledged existence of Allah. They confirmed that Paradise is for the friends and followers of Ali (RA). In Islam, wearers of the stone have signified intense belief in Islam and are among the groups of pious people. There are verses from the Holy Quran found engraved on this stone.
